Informace

The Jan Patočka Archive was established by Ivan Chvatík and Pavel Kouba as a special department of the Philosophical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in January 1990, immediately after the 1989 revolution.

The idea for the department dates to 1977 when, after Patočka's death, Ivan Chvatík organized the evacuation of Patočka's manuscripts from his flat and started to edit an "Archive Collection of Patočka's Works" for samizdat. By 1989, twenty-seven volumes had been published. The editorial group, consisting of Ivan Chvatík, Radim Palouš, Pavel Kouba, Miroslav Petříček and Jan Vít, was awarded the Prize of the Academy of Sciences in 1990.

The aim of the Archive is to organize a study and interpretation of the philosophical legacy of Jan Patočka, to publish his complete works, and to gather manuscripts and documents concerning his work and life.
